Upon receiving word that a student is going to be reviewed by CSSP, the Dean of the College will determine whether or not the student’s grades were affected by an Honor Council proceeding. If so, the Dean of the College will send the student an email that includes the following text or minor variations thereof:
CSSP will be reviewing your academic standing. I am aware that you were brought before Honor Council concerning work in the following class(es): _____________. This may be information that could help CSSP understand your case more fully. I would like to let CSSP know that your grade(s) in the aforementioned class(es) was/were affected by (an) Honor Council proceeding(s). However, I would like to have a conversation with you so that we can come to a decision regarding whether or not this information should be shared. Please respond so we can find a time to talk. If I don’t hear from you within (appropriate deadline, to be determined by the Dean of the College) I will assume that you don’t have concerns about this information being shared, and I will pass it on to CSSP.
Every reasonable effort should be made to contact the student, including phone calls if the student does not respond to the email, before concluding that the student has no concerns about this information being shared.
If, following a conversation with the Dean of the College, the student determines that he or she does not want this information to be shared, the final decision rests with the student. The Dean of the College may use his or her discretion to share this information regardless of the student’s wishes only in extreme circumstances.
